This month we will be tasting the grape Merlot and its cousin Carménère.

Bring a wine that is made from the Merlot or Carménère grape, or is a blend where it predominates.

This includes wines from Pomerol and Saint-Emilion, and the commune of St-Estephe. If you're feeling generous, Château Pétrus would be a delightful surprise!

Also bring an appetizer. Cheese, bread, chorizo.

However, if you bring a full meal to share, you can excuse yourself from bringing a bottle.

Cost: $3 for the first time for a glass.
$1-5 for cleaning up
$1-3 for the initial sparkler.

If you cannot bring a bottle of wine, write "$20" in the RSVP, and I'll get the bottle for you. If I get enough money, I will purchase two special bottles for the group.

Please RSVP, ideally with what you're bringing. It helps.

Cabernet Sauvignon. It's everywhere.

Canada and Lebanon. France and California.

Let's compare to French Bordeaux wines. You should look more for wines from the Medoc region, or the first growth estates of Château Mouton Rothschild and Château Latour.

If you are adventurous, bring a Cabernet Franc.

It is difficult to find a California Cabernet Sauvignon for less than $20, in my opinion.

Suitable appetizers: some say rich red fruit; others chocolate! Hearty meats.

Those who bring a meal to share are exempt from bringing a wine.

The grill will be on for those who would like to bring something to grill.

Cost? If this your first time, $3 for the glass. Otherwise we appreciate donations for the cleanup, space and Sparkling wine $1-5. Most of the time we cover our costs.

We start off with the sparkler.

Please RSVP with what you are bringing. Look forward to seeing you there.

PS: Please change your RSVP to "No" if your plans change.

Spanish Reds and Whites.

Learn about how to read a Spanish Label. Compare the different varietals.

Please bring an appetizer to go with the Spanish wine you are bringing. We've got some remarkable cooks, but if you can only bring cheese that's OK. Still, this is not a place of judgment.

Your favorite wine.

Choose your favorite/special/prize wine to bring and share with others - and the story of why you find this wine is so special!

Havea a delicious, full-bodied red? An earthy Burgundy? A crisp Sauvignon Blanc? Bring one to share? Just come and tell a story about it. We can compare what we like about our favorites.

If you do not have a favorite wine, I'll be buying great wines that go with seafood. Bring $20, and write it in the RSVP.

I will also be buying local oysters. If you would like oysters, tell me how many. It will be between $1 and $2 a pop.

Please bring an appetizer. We've got some remarkable cooks, but if you can only bring cheese that's OK. Still, this is not a place of judgment.

We're getting ready for the spring with some light reds.

This may include a Gamay grape varietal, such as a Beaujolais Nouveau, or Pinot Noir, or a Malbec (to compare).

I know its a broad category. We will probably update this as time goes forward. But the key is "light." That means no Cabs. Nothing particularly tannic. Unless its a light tannic wine.

As usual, we'll gather and have a glass of champagne to begin, discuss what we've brought and then put everything in brown paper bags to evaluate blindly. Your palate will surely improve. We may bring, also a tasting kit to help us with our palate.

If you can't bring anything, just leave an RSVP and bring $20 so I can get a bottle. Multiple inquiries also ensures a greater variety of wines.

Please bring an appetizer.

Those who bring a meal to share are exempt from bringing a wine.

Cost? If this your first time, $3 for the glass. Otherwise we appreciate donations for the cleanup, space and champagne. Most of the time we cover our costs.

A good way to master the Chardonnay grape. Chablis, and white Burgundy. And champagne (yep!).

Each person attending should bring a bottle and hors d'oeuvre.

There is no charge for this event. However, a dollar or two in the basket for the cleanup crew is appreciated.

Cabernet Sauvignon and Bordeaux and Malbec.

These are deep wines. Let's get to know them.

This is one where it is important to bring food. They are tannic, and require it.

Please bring an appetizer. If you bring a meal to share, you don't need to bring a wine. Just RSVP that you're doing this.

If you promise to bring at least $15, I'll do the buying for you.

Please tell what region you're bringing it from. Rhone? Australia? South Africa?

An introduction to wine. And even semi-amateurs can learn some thing new.

At cost.

Ned Towle, the Director of Westchester Wine School, has agreed to give a short introduction to tasting. He will discuss the sensory evaluation of wine – tastes, flavors, and tactile sensations; ways to discover your own personal preferences; and some of the vocabulary used to describe wine.

If you've been here before, you know he packs a lot of fun and information in 15 minutes. He might even discuss things longer. As always, several long-time aficionados will be there to talk about the wines.

After this: you'll be able to go to any major wine tasting, confident that you can learn more.

Let us select the wines this one time. We're purchasing wines from the southern hemisphere, excellent wines that are excellent representations of the grapes we'll be reviewing. We know that these are hard times financially so we'll keep it more than reasonable: $15.

The cost is only $15 per person. I'm kind of embarrassed at how affordable this is. They say that people only like wine tastings that are expensive. But this is impossible for you to turn down.

You read it correctly. Normally an entire course for 8 weeks is about $700. One class, $85.

It is IMPOSSIBLE to get this quality for any less.

It won't be an extended class, but Ned and Colin will be around to talk and answer questions. We'll even have a few books for people to peruse. And if you have a wine book yourself, bring it so people can compare!

We do ask that people bring appetizers. It helps us taste the food.

Please RSVP. And a couple bucks helps pay for the room. We may also raffle off a wine of some sort.

Cost: $15.00
