Unusual Old World White Wines. No Chardonnay, unless blended. This is your opportunity to discern between different sorts of white wines.

However, if you want to bring a Rose' or a very light red (say a pinot noir) then we won't stop you.

But I'm getting oysters. If you want oysters, bring ten bucks and you can have a few. I'll get them from Eastchester Fish gourmet. And we'll be in front of the church. Write down if you want oysters in the RSVP.

As usual: bring a bottle of wine and an appetizer.

OR bring a dish (we encourage this, because we don't need 50 bottles of wine).

OR bring $20.

Please RSVP with what you will bring for an appetizer.

The dish allows us to appreciate the wine more. Those who bring $20 help me ensure we have a variety of wines to contrast to our normal fare. I front the $20 and pool the amount to purchase bottles most individuals might not buy except for special occasions.

When you bring your wine, the organizers will organize, uncork and bag the wines into groups. Then people can taste the wines at their leisure. Yes, it is a blind tasting.

The speaker will make a brief introduction in the beginning, and then toward the end people can talk about the wines. We then take the wines out of the bags.

No charge for event, but there is a donation basket for the cleanup. I will get four bottles of Cava as an apertif. If you'd like a glass, I'd welcome the opportunity to share the cost. Please take the poll so I can get an estimate.

You will reward the organizers if you RSVP with the winery/grape variety, the appetizer and/or meal and/or $20.

Would like to pass on the blind tasting for white wines, so that it can be served properly chilled.

Loved the meet-up but i won't be in town. Next time!

Who attended?

    •  I have to agree with Olga and Kathleen that each tasting seems to top the one before it. Just great wines last night. We did not seem to have the usual selection of food last night. Please remember to bring an hors d'oeuvre with your bottle of wine, unless you are bringing a substantial main dish, in which case you can skip the wine.
    •  Surprisingly, each event is better than the last one, & I thought the last one was the best!
    •  Very well organized and informative. I would go again. Thanks
    •  Being my first time, the wine definitely made it easier to open up to others. Looking forward to the next one. Elisa
    •  The best one yet. And Gawain's got some juice with the guy (or gal) upstairs and kept the rain away so we could enjoy wine under the stars. Very nice.
    •  Great wines, interesting conversations, nice people. Gawain does a great job!
    •  Hi Gawain and everyone from this evenings meet-up. Actually I have never really bee n to one although my husband who joined this one is an organizer for a group . I thought this one was great. i loved that it was local and that I knew absolutely nobody and hence it was great to have been a part of a group unrelated to my day to day activities. Thanks for being so hospitable to the newbies ! I drink wine with friends but mostly end up with cocktails. This was so interesting, and informative . i enjoyed enough to laugh and just be one of the group as I am generally a very amiable and social person. Gawain, special thanks for being such a wonderful host! The oysters were certainly a treat and I know you went to get such perfect ones. I shall return. Until next time enjoy the stat of summer. Best, Lori

The gods blessed us with great weather for a wonderful outdoor experience. Another truely great meeting. I certainly enjoyed the variety of wines. Previously we would group the wines according to grape but I think moving among the various types of wine allowed you to appreciate and recognize the differences.
    •  Nice time meeting new people and embibing lots of vino!!! Pretty venue too.
    •  A pleasant evening, interesting people, delicious/surprising wine selection - despite an earlier threat of thundershowers
