 I'll have a name tag

Australia has been making great Shiraz; New Zealand has been making stellar Sauvignon Blancs.

And they make other wonderful wines also. Personally, I've found some delicious Grenache, Syrah, Mourvedre wines in the Barossa Valley.

Instructions: bring a bottle of wine and an appetizer.

OR bring a dish (we encourage this, because we don't need 50 bottles of wine).

OR bring $20.

Please RSVP with what you will bring for an appetizer.

The dish allows us to appreciate the wine more. Those who bring $20 help me ensure we have a variety of wines to contrast to our normal fare. I front the $20 and pool the amount to purchase bottles most individuals might not buy except for special occasions.

When you bring your wine, the organizers will organize, uncork and bag the wines into groups. Then people can taste the wines at their leisure. Yes, it is a blind tasting.

The speaker will make a brief introduction in the beginning, and then toward the end people can talk about the wines. We then take the wines out of the bags.

No charge for event, but there is a donation basket for the cleanup. I might get four bottles of prosecco as an apertif. If you'd like a glass, I'd welcome the opportunity to share the cost. Please take the poll so I can get an estimate.

You will reward the organizers if you RSVP with the winery/grape variety, the appetizer and/or meal and/or $20.

Who attended?

    •  Another great BYO event. However, I do not feel we should do blind tastings of white wines since it is hard to serve them properly chilled that way.
    •  I like the blind tastings because it forces you to exercise your palate. I secretly was trying to determine which were which ... Chardonnays, Sauvignon Blancs, Shiraz, Pinot Noirs, etc. I didn't do too badly and felt quite proud of myself. It's nice to see so many people showed up despite the weather. Another successful meetup. Thanks Gawain for organizing.

nice group of people, good assortment of wines, Annette Barbieri and Gawain did a good job of giving us an overview of the types of wines.
    •  Given the rainy weather this had a great turn out. Plenty of wine of all types gave this meet up a special character. The information about the down under region was interesting, informative and most of all not too long (great job!). As usual, the food was varied, plentiful and just wonderful! Best of all the people are the friendliest! This is remains an experience that you just can't wait for the next one! Great job Gawain et al!
    •  wine was great. the people were friendly and the hour deves were yummy. Gawain did an excelent job! Great wines and a good mix

Good time as usual. I was surprised to learn about good Australian whites.
    •  A nice informal way to meet people and sample so many different wines!!
    •  First time I'd tried an extensive blind tasting.. loads of fun, and surprising!
