Re: [wine-453] Wine Bats meet-up group update

My two cents worth....

I enjoyed Damon's events.  Some were a little pricey to participate in on a regular basis.  There are plenty of wine tasting groups in the area.  Keep the "Blinds"!  Plan events around varietals and let the group bring samples to taste.

Times are tough, but there are still plenty of great wines and good times to be had.

Rowdy

PS... Thanks Damon for all of your efforts.

I hae not had the opportunity to go to one but thought the wine bats was a good name not for being blind, but as the old hockey team.. because of the congress bridge bats.. think you should keep the name...

Hi folks,

Just before the group officially ended, I stepped in as the organizer, even though I was fairly new to the group. Because of my love of both wine and socializing around it, I felt that it would be a tragedy if this group of wine lovers should just dissolve. I thought it would be fun to give the group another chance to be a success for all of us. Where I lived before I returned to Austin, I was in a great wine meet-up, and hope to spread that wealth.

I have a few ideas, and I'm interested in hearing the ideas of other group members. I encourage you to post your ideas to the message board. For this purpose, I am creating a new thread there, called "new group ideas." Please let us know how you would like to see this group now and in the future.

On an administrative note, I think that Austin Wine Bats was copyrighted IRL by Damon, and I would like to open the group up to non-blind tastings, so I'm making at least a temporary name change. The new name is the Austin Wine Tasters, but if you can think of something more creative, I urge you to suggest it. :)

I have also posted a poll--though it's just one question. Please answer it, so I can get some feedback on one of my ideas for the group.

I'm going to check into scheduling a tasting for mid-May at a wine bar in town. The tasting may be informal, so that we can meet, reconnect, and socialize as a group. I'll send more information along when I have scheduled the event.

Let's get out there and drink more wine together!

Cheers!

Jen
