Tasting Notes

This page is where we can compile all of the notes that we take regarding certain wines. I hope to provide a description and picture of each wine and then take the best reviews from the message board after each outing. That way, we can all have a "memory" of what we have tried. Be sure to check back a few days after each event to see the new information!

April 29, 2007 -- Personal Tasting

Banfi Chianti Classico Riserva (2003) -- I had this wine this evening with a fantastic bowl of pasta with a hearty meat sauce and sundried tomato and basil bruschetta, and it had the gusto to still be heard! This wine has a bouquet of cherry, vanilla, and fresh leather. Newly opened it is a little heavy on the tannins, but an hour in the air rounds it out beautifully. Black cherry is the dominant flavor with hints of vanilla and spice with a long lasting, well-rounded finish. A lovely wine all-around.

April 20, 2007 -- Let's Get Acquainted

Vino Sanzo Verdejo -- I have honestly never had a wine from this particular grape, but I must say I am impressed. The wine was crisp and clean, light and fruity, with a flavor of green apple and pear, and most of all delicious. It has a lovely light slightly green color.

Indis Unoaked Chardonnay -- This is a beauiful Chardonnay! It has a smooth mouthfeel and a lovely, long-lasting finish.

Indis Cabernet / Shiraz -- This is a nice gutsy Cab/Shiraz blend. Full of flavor and spicy with hints of black cherry and clay. The Cabernet really fills out the Shiraz -- they play well together. Nice, lasting finish.

Chateau de Pennautier Syrah -- Not as dynamic as the Indis, but with a peppery bite that is quite attractive. More like a good earthy Syrah.

Il Falchetto Moscato d'Asti -- I am normally not a fan of Astis, but this was a lovely wine. The mouthfeel is positively velvety with strong flavors of pineapple, citrus and vanilla. It reminds me a lot of pineapple upside-down cake! The finish is long-lasting and sweet.
