Shannon,
I think you're right about the group loosing steam for lack of leadership and consistancy. But keep in mind we are in the mist of the busiest season of the year. People will be saddled with more then the usual. I really do think starting around 7:00 will help for those interested in attending. I've not been to your store yet so not sure but......
Other thoughts: Do you have an area that's condusive to socializing? I believe many folks will think of this as a possible singles meet up place. Doing something to encourage that would be a plus. Many singles out there are trying to figure out how to meet other singles without being so obvious as internet dating.
I'm sure what you have planned is well worth the $10.00 but it may ward some folks off. Not that they don't
have the money but will be watching their dollars more closely especially now. If you could trim it down to a range of $5-7...I think that would sound more appealing. Once you've built the word of mouth momentum you can re-think the $ and venue.
If you have some method of advertisement you may want to consider advertising the kind of snacks you may offer during the tasting sessions.
Try hooking up with bakers or caterers who would jump at the chance to showcase their foods to a collected group. They will likely offer you a discount on the food if they see the chance to connect with more people. Meaning more business for them down the road. Work with these people to offer foods that work with the wines you are choosing to showcase. This is excellent PR for you all around. Hooking up with local business folks who will recommend you as well as individuals who are attending your meet
ups.
Hope you see something here that can help prosper your ideas.
I expect to try making the Jan 6th meet up but not sure it will work for the early hour. Never the less I am looking forward to meeting you in the near future.
Wishing you the best in the New Year!

Carol,
I understand, this is the first meet up I have organized for the group. It does last 5-7 (or longer) so you could still come in at 6pm. It starts at 5pm but its not required that you be there at 5. Maybe the next meet up I will have on a Thursday that starts at 7pm. Any input you all have I appriciate. So far not to many people have put down yes on the RSVP. I think the group has been so inactive that they don't want to commit.

Shannon,
I would like to consider coming but 5:00 on a week day will be hard to manage. I wonder if that would be the case for others to consider.
