Saturday, Oct.24, is going to be a very busy wine day. There are several Grand Wine Tastings and I am presenting four here. These events will have plenty of different wines, and likely some other drinks as well, such as beers and hard liquors. Most should have some snacks to nibble on too. I'll probably be at Gordon's, and maybe also the Spirited Gourmet event.

I am currently working on planning a visit to the Travessia Urban Winery in New Bedford(www.travessiawine.com). They make wine from grapes grown in Massachusetts. I am still working out the specific details but this date should be good. I may have to limit the number of people who can attend, so please RSVP asap.

Updates:
---The time of the event is now 11am.
---There will be a tasting room fee of $5, which you will pay at the winery. But, if you buy any wine there, they will not charge you the tasting fee.
---We may try to have lunch after the winery visit.

Wine-Sense will be holding their Grand Anniversary Wine Tasting. I don't have many details at this time and will update everyone when I do. I do know that for previous tastings, the store had 2 separate tastings, one in the afternoon and one in the evening. There will probably be over 50 wines available for tasting. It has always been a fun tasting.

UPDATE:
As expected, this tasting will be separated into two parts. The first one will be held from 1pm-5pm and the second from 6pm-10pm. Each part will have different wines so you could attend both tastings and get to try all of the different wines. I will most likely be attending both of them, though no one has to attend both. If you do choose to attend both, I suggest you have dinner between the two tastings. It is possible we could all have dinner as a group, if people are interested.

We will be sampling three wines each from two of the top wineries in the world. Domaine de l'Hortus from the Languedoc and Pic St. Loup produces incredible wines based around Grenache and Mourvedre. And Domaine Couly-Dutheil of the Loire River Valley and Chinon. They are considered hands down the best producers of Cabernet Franc anywhere. Here's what's on tap:

Hortus Classique Blanc

Hortus Pic St. Loup Rose Saignee

Hortus Pic St. Loup Bergerie Rouge

Couly-Dutheil Rene Couly Rose

Couly-Dutheil Diligence

Couly-Dutheil Baronnie Madeleine (92pts Wine Spectator)

This is the Grapevine Travelers annual Spring Grand Tasting. There will be 11 different vendors (10 wine vendors & 1 beer vendor), which usually means 50+ wines available for tasting. Hors d'ouerves will also be provided.

We have been to a number of their grand wine tastings before and they usually have some excellent wines, at all different price points.

The Wine Shop of Reading has new owners, Beena and PJ. It does not appear though that they will change anything significant about the store. It should remain largely as is, a boutique wine store with cheeses, gourmet foods, and giftware.

I will be sad to see the former owners. Robyn and Dion, go though they will still be around a bit, helping advise the new owners. I have always have a soft spot in my heart for this wine store.

The store is holding a small wine tasting this Saturday, from 3-5pm, of some new arrivals. This is a good chance to say good bye to Robyn, who will be at the tasting, as well as to meet the new owners.

Wine-Sense of Andover is holding a special Italian wine tasting this Thursday. Eileen Wright from Adonna Wines is bringing a guest a from Italy: Mario Zanusso, son of Ferdinando Zanusso from I Clivi vineyards. This father/son team from Friuli believes in "no make-up of maceration, préfermentaire; only wines juice transformed into wine."

I tasted a number of wines from this winery last year (http://passionatefoodie.blogspot.com/2008/05/i-clivi-wine-tasting.html) and there were some excellent ones! This tasting should be lots of fun. The tasting lasts from 6-8pm.

Our member Cathy, who now also runs the Boston Wine Meet-Up, is offering all of our members a special discount on an upcoming wine tasting.

On Friday, February 27 from 7 to 9 p.m., Formaggio Kitchen is stepping out. The renowned cheese shop in Cambridge brings its gourmet glory to the Bulthaup showroom on Boylston Street to cater a very special event. Naturally, that event has to do with wine. Naturally, the wine's producer is one that Formaggio's wine buyer happens to favor. Because food without wine -- and wine without food -- is just not at its best. Formaggio knows this better than most.

Come and see their spread, which will be specially chosen to pair with wines by the Bret brothers of the Mâcon region of Burgundy.

Formaggio + Wine = Deliciously Perfect
