Bistro 5 (www.bistro5.com), an excellent Italian restaurant in Medford is hosting a special wine dinner on Thursday, January 29.

The special guest will be Paolo De Marchi, a famed Tuscan wine maker, who owns the winery Isole e Olena. This will be a four course dinner with wine pairings for $75. I will soon receive the menu and will post that when I get it. This should be an exceptional event.

I met Paolo last April and got to taste many of his wines, and they were superb. You can read about that tasting on my blog http://passionatefood....

Paolo's Chianti Classico even made my list of Top Ten Wines over $15 in 2008. http://passionatefood....

I am also a big fan of Bistro 5 and have written reviews of it as well. See the following:

Bistro 5 was also my "Favorite Local Restaurant" of 2008. http://passionatefood...

Here is the Menu with wines:

Duck prosciutto, Boar prosciutto, brioche, poached pear, foie gras mousse and vincotto
paired with a 2007 Isole e Olena, Collezzione De Marchi, Chardonnay

Second course: Risotto al Chianti
Truffled Fondue and wild mushrooms
paired with 2005 Isole e Olena, Chianti Classico, Sangiovese

Third course: Braised Veal Breast

A superb meal with excellent food and exceptional wines. Was great to see Paolo, the wine maker, again. He is just such a nice and personable guy. I didn't hear any complaints at all about the food or wine from my dining companions. Looking forward to the next wine dinner here.

food and wines were excellent - nice touch having the wine prices listed and a discount for buying 1/2 or whole cases. winemaker was charming and came to every table, as did the chef, which makes the dinner so much more interesting. the only complaint is waiting so long to get started. it's rude to make everyone who got there on time wait for the people who couldn't be bothered, and waiting reinforces their behavior. it would have been nice to meet others. seating attendees with other members would increase the fun.
