[ We have changed the venue from ~Citizen Space~, which is no longer able to accommodate our wine tastings, to the Tempura House restaurant. This location is also on 2nd, but closer to BART. The $10 fee will go towards orders off the menu. ]
We are devoting this tasting to a special selection of Sonoma wines sourced from grapes grown in different appellations of the County. We will taste an array of reds, and some whites. We will use the "blind" format, i.e., the wines will be covered in bags and coded, both to make it more fun--for example, participants can try to guess the varietal--and to prevent possible preconceptions about certain wines influencing the critiques. We will tabulate the results that night and reveal which wines were which, while exchanging opinions among each other, perhaps sparking some spirited dialogue.
I am also extremely pleased to announce that the San Francisco Wine Enthusiasts Group (SFWEG) is partnering with Vinquire.com to provide user reviews for Vinquire's robust wine search website. Unlike other wine price comparison sites, Vinquire is building a social network of wine drinkers to share their observations. The founders, John and Andy, understand that ~User comments~ is the name of the game these days on the Internet.
SFWEG will serve as a panel of consumers submitting wine evaluations as a collective entity, a prototype for what other wine clubs around the country might also embrace. Each member attending our tastings will score the wines, adding brief comments to amplify on the numerical ratings. These scores will then be combined--totaled then divided by the number of "People's Choice" judges--to identify the group score for each wine. We start with Sonoma.
Come be a part of a unique application of Web 2.0's participatory zeitgeist while sampling some terrific vino paired with Japanese food.
