(Wine Lovers - Anthem, Manifesto, Goal?)
We are a group of people who enjoy meeting others who love wine and food. It is our goal to end a year in this group having met new friends, found new wines, and new places that we want to go back to. To attain this we all need to pull together and contribute initiative for what we want out of a group like this. It's your group and the organizer wishes your input and help.
Please help promote your group by printing out these cards (utilizing Avery): Group Cards
Wine Lovers Protocol !
- Guidelines
I'm putting this 1st to get it out of the way.
"water over wine"
There are lessons I've learned about groups such as this which I'd somehow like to strategically and with sensitivity put in place. I've seen groups like this where certain people just want to come and welsh and/or get drunk with no class at all, so any suggestions or experience to that would also be very much appreciated. I want to encourage all to come with respect and discretion and the ability to get water over wine when you need it!
- Have Fun
- First of all if you've joined this group you probably joined it to have fun, make new friends, and learn about what it is that imbibes one into the wine spirit, so have fun.

- Rating System cautions
This is your group for which you will most likely want to see more like minded individuals join. If you go to an event and it doesn't meet your expectations, then for your sake you might just not reply if you feel your emotional about it. A knee jerk reaction or a reaction out of a personal conflict doesn't generally warrant a low rating. If the event in and of itself is good, then give it a good rating. If the venue is good, then give it a good rating. You can always put comments pertaining to a complaint or about abuse into those text fields. Although I'm charging $1 per event (dependent for the most part on people's honesty), I've paid meetup $72 for 6 months to work this system, and you need to realize I work at putting these events and more together for you and I. Essentially, I want everyone to look at this rating system as though it is a fair judgment of you. So when you come to the opening pages of this meetup and look at the stars and don't see 5, you'll say what could I do to make it better?
- RSVP System
In looking over organizer comments within the meetup message board/listserve about the RSVP system I want to try and curb some problems others have had with the system as it is (*see flagging system below). First, if you don't like getting email about an event then RSVP "no" and you won't get anything other then the first email about an event. If an event requires a prepayment to secure food, wine, etc. then please be responsible and make the payment in a timely manner through Paypal or through making arrangements with the organizer.
Here is what meetup recommends doing about RSVP:
[top of list]
Don't worry I won't be deleting anyone unless they cost me $$.
* Flagging System
It's been recommended that we flag people who don't show with RSVP of "Yes" with an X in the "Customized Title" which would show next to your name in the member list and when you RSVP. If the member getting this X were to have a legitimate excuse I can remove it. If they later RSVP and come to an event then it can be removed. It's not like anyone is going to be removed from the group but they may get moved to "No" when events like this fill up and they can't be trusted to show up for their "Yes". Of course since all can see this, it's somewhat of a black flag over one which might hurt their social life within the group and others. I really don't want to hassle with it and have been holding off on anything like this, but it's the only way I can see to hold people to their word (RSVP).
Event Arrangements
When an event is a musical event, note that we will always try to be in an area as close to the center of the stage and approximately 20 yards back. You can look for the red & white meetup badges or the red meetup shirt stuck in the ground, such as seen in the picture below (Thanks Shannon for the cool composite). If it's unbearably hot we might opt for the shade. Also please see "
Your Profile".

Requested venues / Ideas for a venue
This is an ongoing list of ideas that I will add to every so often (
email me):
1.) For the last four years I've attended the live blues and music in the various parks around the greater Sacramento area and always bring my bottle of wine or two. I've thought for this group it would be fun to do a BYOB (bring your own bottle) and share tastings for fun summertime event(s). Please, if you know of any events like this, let me know so that I can get it up on the calendar asap for our group. Here are a few of the ones I've attended and will get on the calendar as soon as I get information on them:
a. Royer Park (Roseville)
b. McKinnly (Sac)
c. Winn Park (Sac)
2.) Claim Jumper (Roseville)
3.) Zinnfandel Grill - live jazz (Rocklin)
4.) Possible venue or two in Tahoe
5.) At least a couple of restaurants in Sac
6.) Venues in Folsom in collaboration with the Folsom - Sacramento Wine Meetup
7.) Impromptu venues out in nature like the Confluence up in Auburn
8.) Private residences by invitation only
Profile questions and a picture
Please click on your profile at top right and answer these questions:
* What will keep you coming to events?
* Would you be willing to host a by invitation only event at your home (if so, for how many)?
* Would you be willing to assist with an event or on a regular basis?
* Would you like to learn about wine in a structured class like setting and would you be willing to pay for it?
* Why does this group appeal to you?
It is highly encouraged that you post a
picture of yourself on this group so that when people come to an event you are hopefully recognizable which should work towards a social bonding that the success of a group like this one depends on. I am a
professional photographer and would be happy to get a shot for you if you don't have one. Please
email me if you'd like to take advantage of this.
