We have done Bordeaux twice recently, but I think it would be great to revisit this iconic region. A few of us are interested in opening something from our collections. This Meetup will be in Arvada.

PLEASE NOTE: If you are a member of the new Oenophile group and have RSVP'ed for this event already over there, do not RSVP again here. We need an accurate count.

This is an Oenophile event. I realized before I started the new group that I would need to create cross-over events occasionally. If you are not a member of the Oenophile group, but want to have a little bit to Q&A with your wine tasting, please feel free to RSVP for this event. Our house parties are a lot of fun! I will be sending the address out next Thursday, after the RSVPs are firmed up.

Please bring a wine glass, bottle of wine from Bordeaux, and a potluck dish to share.

=> VERY IMPORTANT: I want everyone to post what wine they are bringing! We have had two recent events that where overwhelmingly lopsided. Everyone brought a similar wine. I am hoping if we post what we are bringing, others will take note and find something different. Those who shop early will have an advantage.

=> VERY IMPORTANT: Here is what you need to do.

-State whether the wine is red, white, rose, sparkling, or dessert.
-List the producer's name. Bordeaux is almost always from a producer with Chateau in the name.
-List the region. This is often the name of the wine. Producers call their wine the village name. Sometimes the village name is a large area.

Sometimes it is difficult to identify the region or producer's name. Don't sweat it. Do your best.

For example I might bring:

Chateau Freddie Mac 2000 Rouge, Medoc

Producer vintage style, region

Chateau Fannie Mae 2005 Blanc, Graves

Producer, vintage, style, region

Chateau Ginny Mae 2004 Sauternes (Sauternes is dessert wine only, but you can add it to your description if you like.)

You will not usually find the grape name on the bottle, only the regional name.

Medoc, Margaux, Graves, St. Esteph, Haut Medoc, St. Emillion, Cote du Bliythe, Pomerol, Sauterns, etc. are regions. (I'll add to this list of regions soon.) Generally, the more specific the regional name on the label, the better the wine. (But not always.) The larger the region, the lesser the quality. (Again, not written in stone.)

At the last Bordeaux tasting EVERYONE, but one person brought a red wine. There were 100 people and not one Sauternes was contributed (and a ROOM full of desserts!). I don't expect anyone to bring a rose, but a few whites would be wonderful. White Bordeaux is fantastic. At the previous event, one solitary Bordeaux Blanc showed up. It was drank so fast, it was like it vanished in thin air. The person arrived with it in hand and a few minutes later he and I were searching for it and found an empty bottle. Please consider bringing a Bordeaux blanc. If you bring one, please make sure it is chilled. Bordeaux blanc is made from sauvignon blanc and semillon.

Sauternes is the most famous dessert wine ever. There are plenty of reasonably priced Sauternes from Bordeaux. Do not get confused with the cheap boxed wine called sautern. It is not the same, not the spelling. You will find Sauternes in half bottles (375ml) as well as regular sized bottles (750ml). If you want to bring a dessert, consider purchasing a dessert wine. Sauternes should be chilled. Dessert wine and sweets are a match made in heaven.

I will be adding details about Bordeaux Rouge in the next couple of days. I will be opening a few gems from my cellar as well. Please state what wine you are going to bring, red, white, rose, or dessert. (I would include sparkling, but bubbly from Bordeaux is obscure in Colorado. If you find one, you should consider bringing it! I know there is at least one out there.)
