It is time for me to retire this group.

After several years and 166 events, I have decided to close down the Denver Wine Group. I am not stepping down, but rather I am emptying the rolls and closing the Meetup. I have good reasons for closing this group.

-There are plenty of wine groups these days and of course this is not a bad thing. However, it is difficult to plan an event, knowing folks will change their mind about attending or not show. Last month, a few days before one of our events, another group sent out an email reminder for something else. (I get this email too.) Within minutes my email was crowded with RSVPs changed to no (the software tells me when you've changed your RSVP). Keeping one more wine group open will not promote successful events. I see more and more options for wine drinkers and think this trend will continue.

-As of this writing, I have focused this group on the topic of wine the whole time is has existed. If I were to hand it off to someone else, I see this focus diminishing. If someone else has this passion, they already have a wine group and you probably belong to it. It is not easy to run a Meetup, it is even harder to run a Meetup where you are the expert and are responsible for keeping it focused and interesting.

-It is my project and it is time for me to retire it. I have considered organizing this Meetup as part of my work, a very enjoyable part of my work and this is why I have lasted so long (over five years). I have met so many great people. I intend on staying active by being a guest at your wine event, so look for me and know I welcome a conversation with you about wine. The Oenophiles group will now be my focus!

I will be removing your membership soon. I will not be debating this decision, so these types of emails will not be answered. The calendar will stay posted for a few weeks, in case you want to look back on anything I've written.

Another reason I am closing this down is to return to publishing my newsletter and web site: http://www.redwhiteandrose.com This group has been a wealth of information regarding consumers. The group helps ground me, because the wine trade thinks consumers like to spend $40 on a bottle of wine and they pour this stuff liberally for me. It also confirms what I have known all along, folks like spending $9 on a good bottle of wine (or less). Ironically, this group has taken so much time I have not been able to publish anything for redwhiteandrose.com lately. This is going to change.

I want to thank all the assistant organizers who have done such a great job. I want to thank all the hosts who have opened their homes to us over the years. I will cherish the privilege of your company always. I have learned so much from all of you and those lessons are invaluable. Thank you so much for being a part of my wine group. I will miss our events, but hopefully I will be attending your events in the future.

Cheers!
Brenda

PLEASE READ

"The organizers of the Denver Wine Group welcome everyone's participation (adults). Membership has privileges and responsibilities. We have expectations for all members. These expectations are for the most part based on common sense and good manners. Our foremost concern is safety. Our members should not drive drunk. Furthermore, our members should know when it is time to go and when it is time to say no. Members should not impose extreme drunkenness on the host or other guests. Finally, members will never hold the host, the organizers, or other members responsible for their actions. By RSVPing to any event, you acknowledge that you and only you are responsible for your actions." -BF
